I think from all the bass tutorials on RUclips this one comes closest to what John Deacon is actually playing. Still it's not 100% accurate. For example, 1:19. Deacon plays the second note of his bass line during Brian May's guitar solo staccato (in other words, shorter than the surrounding notes, and followed by a very brief pause). He repeats this in the second bar of this solo.

Hey bru thanks so much for that video. Was a big Pixies fan growing up in Namibia and use to listen to my neighbours, two Saint daughters (St Helena) jam out those tracks on the normal guitar. Kim Rocks even in deepest Africa and her bass was definitly the background rift to many naughty teenage moments. Wanted to try the bass back in school but was musicaly scarred and shy to give it a go. Happens when you get chased out of the choir as a 7 year old and forced to do woodwork. I wanted to hang and goof with my friends but my music teachers face twitching away left me in no doubt that I was on borrowed time. Found me and dragged me by unmusically trained ear down to the wood work teachers room. I know some of your watchers might shudder at that ... but seriously back then it was called enthusiastically pomoting education and I have no hard feelings at all. Just wanted to sing instead of making F-ing chess boards and key hangers. She, Mrs Pearce was a proper old school Scot who was having trouble adjusting to loose, wild and recklass Namibian youngsters. Not sure how or why she ended up in Namibia (she definitly was a square peg in a round whole) but back in the day all sorts floated up on the skeleton coast believe me. We even had a member of the Napolise mafia (Gomorrah) hiding in my town for 5 years until his old habits got the better of him and he burned his restaurant down for the insurance. But thanks to this video I played my first song that I could actually sort of make out (definitly my ears only). No Chelsea bun for guessing which one, it's pretty obvious (think like super simple). Bought a cheap nasty bass a year ago after my girlfriend at the time begged me to buy her a guitar for her birthday. I thought god if I am musically challenged, she is definitly musically bankrupt. So I have nothing to loose and might as well go with the flow and get something for myself as well. As they say, in the land of the blind the one-eyed man is king. We broke up soon after (no it was not the music ... but thanks for the vote of confidence) and my bass was forgotten (actually never taken out it's box) and definitly was at best making it's way towards becoming a wall or garden ornament. Something you hide in the garage and tell your brothers kids BS war stories about to just mess with your brother. But thanks to tearing my ACL and spaghetifying my MCL and coming to the realisation that I won't be surfing for a while now - it finally got unboxed and dusted down a couple of weeks ago. Did a few of the Browstone tutorials (nice, simple and clear) and decided to give your Pixie tunes a try. Singing along hear as I play. Got one mastered and one, I can play the notes but F-me I can't hear the tune. Probably still challanged but what the heck - just don't tell Mrs Pearce. She may or may not still be alive but I live between London and Scotland myself these days. Dont want her ghost coming to tell me I am flat and only good for selling brown sugar and chopping wood. Because if I am really honest I think I sucked at woodwork too. Ever listen to She Past Away - Anatolian Turkish Goth Rockers. Yeh ... believe me I thought that to until my ex got me to listen to them. Now one of my favourite bands. Listen to songs like Kasvetli Kutlama, Sanri or Ritual and maybe if you like it you can drop the tabs ... I am musical special needs and will unashamedly seek all the help I can get, besides I think that style of voice suits me.
